Zines, Zines, Zines
In February I’ve been pretty busy working on zines. Here is a quick preview of what is going to happen in the next few months.
Broken Luck
What is Broken Luck? It’s a full-color zine supplement for the science-fantasy tabletop RPG Troika! Be a Kid God. A Holy Beast. A minor deity or a powerful mortal being. Whoever you are, you’re an unlucky traveler and you’ve crossed the childish Gods. Now your life is a mess. You wander across the spheres and hide from the vengeful immortals. You seek their secret palace to take revenge and free yourself from their wretched curses.
28 pages - color - A5 - Text and Layout: Iko - Proofreading: Cleo Madeleine. The zine is fully illustrated by the unique Perplexing Ruins, and therefore looks rad! because Perplexing is a visionary and generous artist, and we are so lucky to have him in the indie TTRPG scene. Listen what he says about his artistic journey in this TLB Podcast interview
As I write this newsletter the fulfillment for the Broken Luck Kickstarter campaign is on its way. I guess many of you have backed the zine, and I thank you for that!!! a lot!!!
If you didn’t have a chance to back the zine don’t worry, several cool stores will be putting the zine on their shelves in March. I’ll send a newsletter with all the store links as soon as that happens.
Skyrealms
Skyrealms is a coloring book and a game neutral fantasy bestiary/setting, fully illustrated by Evlyn Moreau. 24 to 32 pages, nice recycled paper, it might come with a foldable coloring map. Evlyn is one of the most incredible and talented artists of the scene. Her drawings are fun and full of emotions. Skyrealms will be perfect as a gaming supplement, or as a drawing book for kids and grown ups. I am thinking about doing a quick Kickstarter soon to bring it to print. I’ll let you know asap.
This below, is what I mean by coloring book/bestiary, this spread is an old draft, so please don’t mind typos and editing.
By the way, this zine is both inspired by Evlyn’s drawings, and by three ancient little Mediterranean islands called Ponza, Ventotene, Santo Stefano. Figured you might be interested to know this.
The Lost Bay - First Look
That’s the passion project, I’ve been working on it for years (literally). It’s a 90’s inspired suburban horror RPG. Why First Look? Because this spring I’ll release a shorter version of the game, a few pages with the core rules, and a mini adventure, all you need to start playing the game, or even crafting your own content for it. I call it First Look. An amazing team is working on this First Look edition. Let me name drop. Development Editing is done by Laura Elle, who is the supervising editor for the podcast. Editing will be done by Jarrett Crader who has edited literally dozens (hundreds?) of games. Layout is by the amazing Gontijo. The character sheet is by Bruno Prosaiko (strong LATAM presence on this project). And the art, oh the art, is by Evangeline Gallagher
Here’s some art:
Want more art? Here it comes:
Pretty cool, right? Evangeline has an unique style that conveys perfectly the horror, mesmerizing vibe I’m trying to hit with The Lost Bay.
And by the way, the character sheet by B. Prosaiko is almost done, and looks terrific (and a bit terrifying too). I’ll drop it here or on twitter as soon as it’s ready.
If you want to have a closer look at the development process of the game you can hop in The Lost Bay discord server. There I post regular develogs about the game, and a few playtest sessions are starting to be organized. Feel free to join.
That’s it for today! I’ll get back to work now :) Have a great weekend and take care.
